CO₂-free heating and cooling is possible

Heating and cooling are responsible for 40 % of the all-over energy demand and therefore for a substantial amount of carbon emissions in the Austrian real estate sector. Beyond Carbon Energy

The first heating and cooling system of Beyond Carbon Energy was implemented between 2012 and 2016 and is in operation since 2017 as part of the new construction project “Viertel Zwei” under the title “Kraftwerk Krieau” and supplies app. 100,000 m² of apartments, offices, student housing with CO2-reduced  heat. The urban development project, which has won numerous sustainability awards, has also been financed by Erste Bank Oesterreich. Now, the network of the lighthouse project Kraftwerk Krieau will be more than doubled, continuing the success story. The projects following Kraftwerk Krieau have been substantially improved regarding the carbon reduction and could be largely made available with a carbon-free energy supply.

"The technical solution alone is not enough. If you want to bring something into the world, you have to make it a complete work of art. If the organisational framework doesn't fit all around, you won't be successful. The financing side is a central building block. The banking partner must truly become an educated financer in this area, otherwise no financing will work out. We have found such a partner in Erste Bank, from sales and risk management to corporate management," explains Herbert Hetzel, founder of Beyond Carbon Energy.
