Anna, Slackliner

Anna has been walking on slacklines for over ten years – she is a trainer, reads lectures on it, wrote a book and even made some films.

“When you first start balancing high up in the air, there is a lot of adrenaline. But when you come to the longer distances, you find quite the opposite – an absolute calm.”

Anna loves teaching, witnessing how her students conquer the slackline and try something out, they would have never thought possible before.

“When someone comes to my class, a new world opens up for them, and I am by their side. This is really fulfilling.”

Frantisek, Glass Designer

Frantisek designs and creates glass objects. The work with glass has a long tradition in the Czech Republic, and Frantisek wants to master and renew this old craft.

“Nowadays, a lot of jobs are replaced by robots and everything is being automated. But I want to return to the old, slow crafts and revive old traditions in a modern way.”

The production process is complex and laborious, so the right partners are mandatory, when one wants to try out something new. Frantisek found his perfect match in a small production studio far away from the city.

In the future Frantisek, who is currently finishing his studies, wants to dive even deeper into the world of glass. Because even though he met the material a long time ago, they still don’t know everything about each other.

Peter, Musician

Peter plays guitar, but also a number of other instruments. There was a time when he was considering a professional music career, but then he turned around right before the conservatory and decided to figure it out himself.

“I want to learn something new all the time, and I think this is the challenge, that the tasks before you are getting harder, but so is the joy you receive.”

Peter likes to play alone, but also has a band. He used to be in an orchestra, but prefers the band. In the band, he says, the others are his friends, so the connection is much better than it could ever be with musicians in an orchestra.

Matěj, Motorcycle Constructor

When he was young, Matěj did not care much for motorcycles. As a student of stage design, he learned to appreciate the originality of old motorcycles and started to dig deeper. He has since been repairing and transforming old machines in his workshop on the outskirts of Prague.

“I love having the possibility to just get on my motorbike and get away from everything that ties me up or issues that I need to resolve.”

He loves working with old bikes because he appreciates their thorough and precise manufacturing. Once a motorcycle is up and running again and has the perfect look, he returns it to their owner with joy.

His work is a combination of many disciplines – he might have to work with aluminium, weld something and use a 3-D printer just to fix one bike. This is how he gets to develop various skills.

“This work has no limits, you can always evolve further and improve something.”

Dana and Martin, Sculptors

“We never fight, and we respect each other. We support each other’s work.”

Dana and Martin met in art school. Martin is a sculptor, Dana’s pieces combine sculptors with painting. They live and work in a former rural roadhouse – not so long ago, village dances were hosted in their studio.

“We have found peace here, our own paradise, enough space and time for creating.”

Martin works mostly with plaster, marble and bronze, forming pieces on the eternal questions of humanity. Dana’s favorite material is wax, which she finds warm and organic. Her art circles around ways of living and the female.
